My new blog on chess improvement can be found at Blog.EuHong.NET.
With that I would like to slight change the nature of this blog Something About Everything to a more general purpose blog where I will post on anything that I came accross and found it interesting. Though most of the posts will still be on chess...

Still Active
I had not been playing in any FIDE rated event and get rated (I do play in Malaysian Chess Challenge which was rated but never paired with any of the rated players.) As a result, my FIDE rating should be inactive according to the rules of FIDE. My record however is still active when I check on the latest FIDE rating list this morning.
My rating card as follow or available at FIDE (World Chess Federation) official website.

My world ranking is of 5 digits as shown here or figure below.

Well, I should start finding a few days off my work commitment and join 1 or 2 FIDE rated events later this year or else I will be inactive soon...
Cheers!!

updates on Amber Chess 2007
I think Kramnik just won the event earlier. Latest results shows at AmberChess website shows Kramnik drew, Anand drew and Ivanchuk lost so that means Kramnik going into the final round with 2 points advantage wins the event before last game!
Congratulations to Kramnik!!
Congratulations to Kramnik!!

Condi Chess
Chess has been a game where 2 people sit quietly and crack their head to come out with the best move. An article from ChessBase.com introduced Condi Chess. Condi chess is another way of making the game fun. The clock is about ten meters away from the board, and every time anyone makes a move, he or she has to run to the clock. Imagine we play Condi Chess in blitz mode, that will actually turn out to be a workout on both mentally and physically! Good idea hey? May be I should try this out to lose some weight while being able to play chess on the same time... hmm...
Cheers!!

Computer and Chess
2 stories on human vs machine on chess.
Story #1
Checking on 1 of my e-mail boxes, I found the latest newsletter from TWIC on GM Ehlvest vs Rybka Engine with the computer playing white in all 8 games on a 4 processor machine, giving odds of 1 pawn on a different position on a 8 games match. The time control is 45 minutes + 10 seconds for each move. Sadly, the final score is 5.5-2.5 in favour of the computer...
More information is available at GM Ehlvest's blog.
Story #2
One of the headlines on ChessBase.com shows "Man vs Machine, Zap!Chess vs Erwin L'Ami 1:1". Yes another match and this time, the games were played with time odds: the computer got 30 minutes (and no thinking on the opponent's time), vs 4½ hours for the human.
Zap!Chess is the commercial version of Zappa, the 2005 World Computer Chess Champion.
The complete story on the ChessBase.com website.
Ever since the Reign World Chess Champion GM Vladimir Kramnik was beaten by Fritz10, the Computer has been dominating human on chess. Nowadays, they are event unbeaten with odds given to our human GM... Will the scenario from movie, The Terminator actually happen to us one day? It seems like...
